Are birds (or bats) affected by micro wind turbines?

The risks to birds from other human related activities are far greater than that of wind turbines [especially VAWTs]. The main risks to birds are: impacts on windows, vehicle traffic, and house hold pets. The order of magnitude of risk to birds from these activities is probably '000's:1 greater than wind turbines. Ultimately, we will not develop micro wind projects in internationally or nationally designated areas such as Special Protection Areas, Special Areas of Conservation, Important Bird Areas, Ramsar or SSSI.

Does the construction phase cause high levels of disturbance?

A quietrevolution micro wind development will only take an average of 10 days to install, with minimum interference. Vehicular access will be required for the crane and flat bed lorry, but these are not likely to cause an impact on local traffic.

Will a micro wind development reduce nearby house prices?

In 2007, the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors carried out a survey on the likely impacts of large scale wind-farms on nearby house prices, concluding that proximity to wind-farms was not a threat to house prices. Moreover, it has been found by Scottish Executive that those living in the vicinity of wind-farms are usually their fiercest supporters. As stated by the British Wind Energy Association;

‘What is evident in the UK is that it is the minority 10% or so who do not like wind energy who too often lead the debate over wind’s future. This has given rise to the misconception that wind energy is unpopular and unwelcome.’ (‘Public Attitudes to Wind Energy in the UK’, by BWEA)

How long will each micro wind development stay operational?

The micro wind development will be operational for 20 years. After this period, quietrevolution will either propose the development  will be decommissioned or re-powered.

Would a micro wind development negatively affect tourism?

There is not evidence that tourism could be affected by the proximity of wind turbine installations. In some cases, large scale wind-farms have become tourist attractions, as observed in the development of popular visitor centres for the Scroby Sands or Whitelee Wind Farms. Testimonials gathered by RenewableUK from wind-farm visitor books consistently show the public support for this type of development. These can be views here; www.bwea.com/you/quotes.html

If I decide to host a wind development, can the energy generated contribute to my CRC targets?

A quietrevolution micro wind development will generate green electricity and make a contribution towards reducing your carbon footprint. It can therefore provide a positive practical and visual statement of your commitment to carbon reduction, and help your organisation to perform better in the national CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme.

What is the minimum average wind speed required for a micro wind development?

We are looking for locations with minimum annual average wind speeds of 6.5m/s. If you are interested in proposing a site for one of our micro wind developments, we can easily and quickly assess your available wind resource and let you know if it meets our requirements.

Is the qr5 certified?

The turbine is designed in accordance with the appropriate European Directives for CE marking and with BS EN 61400:2 2006 as far as possible. The turbine has been certified by TUV NEL, and is the only Vertical Axis Wind Turbine on the list.
