There have been some exciting changes at quietrevolution including a new CEO, the introduction of a new team of distribution partners and a new price for the qr5.

CEO

Maeve Hurley has recently been appointed as Chief Executive Officer. She joined us in late 2007 as Finance Director and has been instrumental in securing successive rounds of funding for the business. “It’s an exciting time for quietrevolution. People aren’t just talking about distributed energy they are deploying it as part of their CSR initiatives. In the UK the introduction of a very attractive Feed-In-Tariff for small wind is driving increased demand as customers look to take advantage of the FITs via our qr5 turbine.”

qr5

Our UK product price is now £20,000 for the qr5 turbine and in addition we have also improved the energy yield, particularly in lower wind sites, by over 50%. The reduction in price for the turbine (including rotor, mast and controls) represents a saving to customers of around 40%.

Why now you might ask?
This is due to a number of factors. The introduction of the feed in tariffs in April combined with the increase in demand for the qr5, has allowed us to pass on the savings accrued through committing to larger volumes, to our customers. Clients still benefit from incredibly low noise and vibration and our unique advanced safety and braking systems make installations close to the public possible. New installations

Fleet numbers are currently at 120 turbines in the UK. Installations over the last year include the Environment Energy Centre in Leyland, Aberdeen College and Northampton college. Network Rail installations include Stafford, Wigan, Rugby and most recently Luton. They have now installed 15 qr5 turbines on their car parks around the country.

Planning requirements for small wind turbines

Current legislation states that planning permission is required on all sites when installing small wind turbines. One of the contributing factors affecting this legislation is the noise level at the location of the neighbouring properties. quietrevolution’s view is that generally if a wind turbine is not heard in lower wind speeds, its increased noise level at higher wind speeds will usually be masked by the increased levels of background noise. quietrevolution has proposed a solution to DECC officials that could unblock the discussions over absolute noise values which could contribute to the release of the impasse over permitted development rights for small wind turbines. The debate continues..

Recruitment

quietrevolution is looking for a CAD Design Engineer to join the team. The role will involve maintaining and developing the design integrity of the products within a multi-disciplinary Engineering team as well as play a key part in the design of the next generation of turbine.

We are also looking to expand our regional distribution team in Scotland. If you are interested in distributing the turbines please email info@quietrevolution.com

We can't help thinking we might have missed a trick on sponsoring the 'boris bike'. A brilliant scheme.

Distributor introduction

To aid our expansion and respond to the rise in enquiries we are now working with five carefully selected UK distributors. Each company has a broad market reach and will offer a professional and efficient service. All are MCS certified and provide a wide range of services both within the wind industry and in the renewable technology sector.

Feed in tariffs

The long anticipated wait of the Feed in Tariff (FIT) finally ended in April. The tariff was better than expected which is very encouraging. From the date of installation you will receive the FIT at that level for 20 years. The FIT rate for the qr5 is 26.7p/kWh until the end of March 2012. Beyond this date you will receive a lower level of FIT depending on the year of installation.

Certification

To be eligible for the Feed in Tariff in the UK you have to install a certified turbine by a certified installer. The certification scheme used for products and installers is the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS). The qr5 is currently undergoing certification at the Myres Hill test site in Scotland. During this testing period the turbine is registered on the transition list making it eligible for the Feed in Tariff.
